Broye walk (leg 3): Portalban-Salavaux-Avenches
Following paths between lakes
Setting off from Portalban harbour, we walk up to the centre of the village and head towards Chabrey along the waymarked path. Our outing starts with a climb to get into the swing of things, then carries straight on in the wood as far as a spot with benches where we can catch our breath. Continuing on our way, we turn left then follow the waymarked path to Chabrey. Crossing the cantonal road, we follow the path on our right to reach the heights above Chabrey, a good place to admire the lake and Jura facing us.
The waymarked woodland track offers welcome shade in the summer.
We continue on our way until we see Lake Morat at our feet. Passing into the Vully, we cross Constantine village. The descent to Salavaux and the lake takes us through vineyards until we reach the lakeside campsite. This we skirt as we head for Avenches. Before reaching Avenches campsite, we turn right and head for the railway station. Try to find time to view the Roman arenas in this ancient town.
Other sights of interest include the remains of the Roman theatre.
