A ramble in the Payerne countryside
Payerne - Corcelles-près-Payerne - Montagny - Vers-chez-Savary - Payerne
Setting off from the stadium car park, we take the waymarked footpath that starts at the railway underpass. Heading for Corcelles-près-Payerne, we then fork right towards the chapel of Notre Dame de Tours. We follow the road to Cousset, Arbognes, while following the Way of Saint James (Via Jacobi).
After the Arbognes restaurant, we ascend the steps on our right and continue up to Montagny-les-Monts village. The Montagny Tower is just behind the church. It’s possible to visit it with a little extra effort. After the visit, we retrace our steps to continue our ascent to Montagny village. In the middle of the small town, we take the footpath trail on our right, which we follow to its end. It takes us across fields up hill and down dale to a show farm and Girard Wood.
In the heart of this bucolic setting, we enjoy delightful panoramic views of the Broye, the Jura and Payerne. We wend our way towards Vers-chez-Savary. The molasse cliffs feature a number of caves not far from a little waterfall. We follow the stream to reach the aforementioned hamlet. Descending towards the swimming pool, we make for Payerne railway station and the stadium car park.
